Tall cliffs of Cabo Girao, Madeira
Not too far from Funchal is the awe inspiring cliff drop of Cabo Girao and the fishing village of Camara de Lobos.
Cabo Girao is around 20-30 minutes drive from Funchal and arriving there you drive higher and higher up the winding roads until you are high, high up. There is a car park when you reach Cabo Girao and a viewing point with railings where you can peer over the edge and enjoy views of the steep drop below. There are plans to develop a new viewing area with glass floors in the future.
Cabo Girao is one of the highest cliff drops in the world with a drop nearing 600 feet from the cliff top to sea level and well worth a visit – looking down you feel as if you are looking down from an airplane.
